Careful handling is essential

As with works of art or other collectibles, careful handling is crucial for stamps. Always use stamp tweezers and a magnifying glass when examining individual pieces. Avoid touching the stamps directly with your fingers, as this can cause damage.

Store in a dry and dark place

Store your stamps in a dry, dark environment. Exposure to light can cause colours to fade, while humidity or mould can severely damage the quality of the material. Any reduction in quality significantly decreases a stamp’s value.

Do not alter or discard anything!

The philatelist from whom you inherited or received the collection most likely followed a specific system of organisation. Please preserve this structure and do not alter the collection’s condition. Do not remove stamps from albums or detach covers, as doing so may reduce their value. And please do not throw anything away. What might seem insignificant to you could be essential for determining the collection’s worth. Do not dispose of anything until one of our experts has examined the collection.
