Tax (VAT) Information

Information for all buyers outside the European Union

19 % Value Added Tax (VAT) on our commission and expenses (not on the hammer price) will be charged to all domestic buyers and buyers from EU countries without a VAT-ID number.

Supplies to non-EU countries are exempt from VAT on commission, expenses, and lot fees upon presentation of proof of export including the total invoice amount.

Supplies to customers from other EU countries holding a valid VAT-ID are subject to the “Reverse Charge” procedure, i.e. commission, expenses, and lot fees are not subject to German VAT; in these cases, the buyer is obliged to declare the VAT in his or her own VAT return in the home country.

Meaning of circle (°) and dot (•)

For lots marked with a circle (°) next to the lot number, an additional 7 % VAT on the hammer price will be charged in addition to the 19 % VAT on commission. This 7 % VAT will not be charged to dealers within the EU (outside Germany) holding a valid VAT-ID number.

Buyers outside the European Union are also exempt from this VAT, provided that export of the goods including the total invoice amount is proven. Dealers based in Germany with a VAT-ID number will be charged this VAT, but it can be claimed as input tax in their VAT declaration.

For lots marked with a dot (•) next to the lot number, 7 % import charges (non-deductible) on the hammer price will apply. This applies to all buyers, regardless of whether they are located in Germany, within the EU, or outside the EU.

Important information for dealers

Lots without a circle (°) can be resold under the margin scheme without restriction. This also applies to lots marked with a dot (•).

The VAT on the commission may generally be reclaimable as input tax for dealers entitled to deduct input VAT. For further information, please consult your tax advisor.
