How do I prepare for a consultation?
Our specialists will assess the value of your collection
But how can you best prepare for a consultation with one of our specialists?
It’s simple: start by getting an initial overview of your collection. The goal is to provide clear and specific answers to a few key questions, which we have listed for you below.
The more comprehensive and detailed your answers are, the more accurately we can estimate the value of your collection and assess its potential success at one of our auctions. Should you then decide to consign your stamps to us, we will examine them closely and determine the potential individual sales value of your collection.
Which collecting areas does the collection cover?
Please examine the stamp albums as closely as possible. Is their content divided by country? Is it arranged chronologically? Are there any written notes indicating special issues such as proofs, misprints, or rare postmarks?
What is the condition of the stamps?
The quality of the stamps plays a crucial role. As a first step, it is important for us to know whether your stamps are mint or used.
How extensive is the collection?
Even if your collection does not contain particularly valuable individual stamps, a large and well-structured collection can still achieve a good selling price at auction. Please count the albums. If any of them are so-called printed albums, make a note of this. Printed albums can easily be recognised by the printed images on each page showing where the stamps should be placed. This helps you quickly see whether the collection is complete or how many stamps are missing.
Are there certificates of authenticity or auction invoices available?
Certificates and attestations confirming the authenticity of the stamps are an important factor in assessing the value of a stamp collection. More expensive stamps have often been forged. Certificates of authenticity issued by philatelic experts, as well as invoices from auction purchases, are clear indicators that the collection contains more valuable items and has been built with expertise and discernment.
