Michael Hilbertz

Chief Philatelist

In 2021, Michael Hilbertz celebrated his 30th professional anniversary as a philatelic expert at Heinrich Köhler. Since 2009, he has also served as the company’s Chief Philatelist. As a key contact for collectors and philatelists from around the world, he impresses with his extensive expertise and competent consultations, whether in person or over the phone.

As the custodian of the legendary “Old German States” card-index archive built by Heinrich Köhler (link to “Provenances”), he is also responsible for research and the continued expansion of this exclusive body of expertise. He likewise applies his deep competence and decades of professional experience to the international sphere.

Incidentally, like his predecessor Jürgen Kahrs and former owner of the Heinrich Köhler auction house, Volker Parthen, Michael Hilbertz still dictates lot descriptions the traditional way — into a voice recorder. But given the exceptional quality of his lot descriptions, delivered in unbeatable time, the method clearly continues to serve him well.
